Picnic for the bugs!

Here it is, the cupcake picnic table covered in bugs! Usually I try to keep the bugs off my table but these are just too cute and they taste great! Who wouldn't want a bug made out of chocolate?
I frosted and then covered the cupcakes with fondant circles. Then, I took a cake board and flipped it over to use the brown side and painted it with acrylic paints with markings to look like a picnic table... added a few benches, covered in bugs and you have a picnic table ready to scare away any picnickers that walk by!

Animal Baby Shower Cake

Here is the finished baby shower cake. I love the way it turned out... it's so sweet! I think my favorite part is the little lion.

Jack's Super Hero Cake!

This is my first two tiers cake. My nephew had a super hero birthday party and instead of having the normal everyday super heros we did characters from his favorite shows. My Mom really helped me out with this cake. She was great!

Cake Pops

I had some left over cake from my crazy weekend of baking so I made these cute little cake pops. They are really sweet but yummy. You crumble up the cake and mix with frosting. Add the lollipop sticks and put in freezer. Once they have hardened some you dip them in melting chocolate and let dry. Add faces with food safe pens or food coloring.

Practice makes perfect

I started to practice making things out of fondant. I wanted to see what all I could do. Be sure not to store in the fridge... they don't do well with moisture.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

My other nephew's Birthday is next week... and this is my practice with royal icing before that big project comes! For this one he asked me for a chocolate Mickey Mouse cake. I'm not sure what possessed me to cover a chocolate cake with white icing... but it wasn't smart. I did a layer of icing and then put the whole cake in the freezer to firm up then I recovered with another layer to hide all of the chocolate crumbs. I know he likes icing so I'm sure he wont mind. I did the Mickey on top and sides out of royal icing. I printed out a picture of him online and covered with a piece of wax paper then piped Mickey's outline with a piping bag onto the wax paper. Next, I filled in the sections with thinned out royal icing in the appropriate colors. I did the same with the Mickey icons on the side. Then was the big moment... was Mickey going to actually come off the parchment without breaking into a million pieces? I said a little prayer and was pleasantly surprised to find out they all came off with relative ease. I then applied the Mickeys and surrounded the cake with one of his favorites, jelly beans!

Easter Bunny Cake

This was my first cake. I made it for an Easter party a few years ago. I took two round cakes and cut one in half and shaped it into ears and placed above the other cake. I used frosting and twizzlers and jelly beans to make the face. Then I surrounded it with jelly beans for a little extra Easter color.

Cupcakes for Cole's Bake Sale

My nephew's school was having a bake sale and I wanted to make something that pretty much anyone could replicate. I bought peeps and jelly beans for the Spring season. I baked cupcakes and topped with green icing... added a peep and a few jelly beans as eggs. A chick in a nest... how cute is that?

Shower Cake for the Bride-to-Be

This was my first cake since the bunny one a few years back. I decided to see how I liked using fondant. I think I had more problems with the cake itself than I did with decorating it. I just You Tubed cake decorating and watched a couple of videos before diving in. It was a lot of fun! I learned alot from this first experience. I also learned that I had a new love!

Baby Shower Cupcakes

A co-worker is about to have her first baby and I wanted to bring something special to her shower. I decided to work on cupcakes so I created these little babies and blankets out of fondant and sprinkles. I iced the cupcakes first to make sure they stuck to the tops. I tried to make everyone different... at least in color combination if nothing else. I loved how these turned out but it took a lot longer than I had planned!

Cookie's Birthday Cake

The Wedding cake was practice for this cake. This was for my Mom's birthday and I don't think I'll ever want to do any cake twice, so I got creative. My Mom loves art just as much as I do and she just picked up painting again so I thought this was the perfect idea. Everything on this cake was made from hand out of fondant. This is my favorite cake so far.... I just love the bright colors!
